Congratulations Irwin Salas
Please join us in congratulating Irwin Salas as this month's Employee Spotlight recipient.
Irwin has been with the City of Jurupa Valley for five years. As a Code Enforcement Supervisor, he is responsible for the administrative side of the Code Enforcement Division, as well as providing training to new staff. He also assists with complaints and enforces laws to ensure the highest quality of life for all of Jurupa Valley.
On a typical day, you can find Irwin taking calls and emails regarding property maintenance, illegal activities, and complaints. As a natural problem-solver, he works to find solutions to the reported issues and then connects with the community to address the complaint.
Now, for a little Q&A.
Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?
A: I enjoy communicating and educating the residents about laws, rules, and code regulations. I really enjoy solving issues, and being solution-driven.
Q: What types of questions do you commonly receive from residents, businesses, or developers?
A: “I would like to file a complaint. Can you keep my information anonymous?”
I get this question a lot and I want residents to know that they can file a complaint using our Mobile App by downloading the "My Jurupa Valley" app, and we will keep their information confidential. The filing a complaint question is also the most common because we are a reactive department and respond to complaints.
Q: What are the most rewarding projects you have been involved in?
A: One of the most rewarding projects is the yearly Point in Time Count, where we count the homeless population in the City. It’s rewarding when we can assist the homeless population to permanent housing and watch the numbers decrease.
I am also super proud of our department's contribution to the 2021 “Building Department of the Year” award by the California Building Officials Organization (CALBO).
Q: What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?
A: “Always hold yourself accountable” and “Take pride in what you do.”
Q: What is one accomplishment at work you are most proud of?
A: I’m proud to see a dilapidated drug house, turned into a beautiful home – taking something old and beautifying it. I am proud of being part of the Code Enforcement Parking citation program implementation for our division.
Q: Anything else you would like to mention?
A: The City of Jurupa Valley has amazing staff. Moreover, it is a pleasure to work with passionate individuals who really appreciate working for the City.
Outside of work, you can catch Irwin running, cycling, and weight training. Congratulations to our Employee Spotlight recipient, Irwin Salas!
